This genuine Log Cabin Furniture is made of Northern White Cedar. Unlike other species of wood, Cedar is light weight, extremely durable and can be used indoors and outdoors. Because Cedar grows mostly near swampy water basins it has a slow rate of decay and a natural resiliency to rot and disease. That delicious natural aroma you're probably familiar with acts as an insect repellent also. Left in its natural state, without any finishing, our Northern White Cedar will last 25 to 30 years. When exposed to the outside elements it will gradually turn a warm silvery grey color. You can lengthen its life if you don't allow it to sit in mud or water for an extended period of time and if you store it in a shed or garage during the winter. If you'd like to stain or clear preserve our indoor and outdoor Cedar Log Furniture, just note that in our "Comments" section should you decide to order from us and we will be happy to send you a staining guide with information on how to prepare, treat, stain and care for your furniture as well as the best products to use. You can also paint your log furniture but take into consideration that stain comes in many colors, it lasts longer than paint, it will never chip, and the beauty of the wood grain is allowed to show through. The wood used in handcrafting our high quality products is stacked in levels with spacers and banded to allow air circulation and control warping and twisting as much as possible. Round stock is peeled then air dried naturally for 2 to 3 weeks to attain only a 6% moisture content. Flat stock is kiln dried for 1 to 2 weeks. Almost every product is surface and edge sanded. Beveling also helps create smooth surfaces and splinter free edges. Log furniture of any species will acquire cracks which is called "checking". It is a natural aging process most noticeable on edges and drilled holes where there is more exposed surface area and drying. People that know wood realize that checking does not affect the strength of the wood. It adds uniqueness and character to a natural product of the Earth. Stainless steel hardware is used on all Adirondack chairs and tables. Coated yellow zinc is used for strength on other products. This Northern Cedar Log Cabin Furniture boasts strength and longevity and is solid cedar wood inside and out. No particle or pressboard. Each piece crafted is predominantly hand crafted from start to finish by either one person or a small group working together. There is a minimal amount of mechanical automation used including peelers, planers and drills. This authentic Log Cabin Furniture from the Adirondack Mountains is first rate consistent quality from planning to preparation to production and that doesn't stop when it arrives at your home. Although there is no assembly required for many pieces including night stands, dressers, bed benches, mirrors, small log and end tables, plant boxes and dog beds and feeders, a minimal amount of assembly is necessary for some larger products that obviously cannot come boxed like beds and rocking chairs for instance. It should take between 15 and 30 minutes to assemble. Detailed directions and premium glue are included as well as an 800 number for technical support. It's like having a handyman available should you need him.
